If you have ever dreamt of having your own farm, or being the heir to a huge farmland, then you’re in luck! The game world of ‘Farming Simulator 25’ offers you a realistic immersive experience where you are the heir to Mr. Walter’s (your grandfather) farmland. Now it is on you to show off your farming heritage. This guide will help you expand and grow your farmland and as well as your economy.
A Path To Forestry
If you were just as fascinated like us, seeing the big shiny ‘Volvos’ chopping down huge trees as if they were mere toothpicks, seeing the bright green ‘John Deere’ tractors lugging wood, then you are going to love this game. Let us see how forestry works in this game.
Since you are here to view the steps for practicing Forestry, the first thing to do is to plan out your plantation strategy: earn small amounts of money regularly or wait for a longer period for a larger amount. Doing Forestry for timber takes time but promises a larger pay, while doing Forestry for woodchips is faster but has a lesser payout. The next part to take care of in Forestry is which trees to grow according to your earning preference.
And finally, how do heavy-duty agricultural machines help you out in all of this. This simulator has licenses for the leading forestry and agricultural machinery manufacturers (Volvo, John Deere, Fendt, etc.) making the gameplay experience much more immersive and authentic. Even though there are just three harvesters available at the moment, in the future we may see many more.
Forestry In Farming Simulator 25
This game enables you to earn profit through various means, forestry being one of them. To highlight what all is offered in forestry through this game, it consists of:
- Planting saplings for them to turn into big trees.
- Once the tree has grown to a desired level, logging them and removing the stumps/mulching.
- Either turning the logs into wood chips or keeping them whole and cutting them into desired length pieces.
Planting Trees
Apart from decorative trees, this simulator offers 2 groups of trees:
- Conifer Trees
- Deciduous Trees
The 2 categories of trees have a total of 12 in-game trees.
Conifer Trees | Deciduous Trees |
---|---|
Stone Pine | Willow |
Spruce | Maple |
Pine | Birch |
Cypress | Oak |
– | Pagoda Dogwood |
– | American Elm |
– | Shagbark Hickory |
– | Downy Serviceberry |
If you intend to earn money by selling woodchips then you should plant deciduous trees, their thickness is perfect for yielding better and a lot more woodchips. If you want to invest in timber then you should consider planting conifer trees. Trees grown for wood chips take comparatively lesser time than timber trees but sell for less.
Logging Your Grown Trees
You can always log readymade trees after purchasing them, but the profit earned would be lesser than that of when you log your own grown trees. Also, the experience of waiting for your trees to grow and then logging them with shiny loggers is an experience we would recommend.
The average time for the trees to grow is between 1 to 2 years (some may be less than a year). If you love chainsaws, then this game has you covered, you can manually use a chainsaw to chop down trees and branches and cut them according to your custom size.
Note: The chainsaw will only cut the tree once the aiming circle is yellow as shown below, and will not work if it’s orange in color.
The other way to log your trees is using loggers. You should use them when you want to log multiple trees faster. Certain loggers can even shave off the branches and cut them into desired pieces.
One thing to note is that the harvesting methods (either a chainsaw or a harvester) are dependent upon the tree type.
Tree | Harvesting Method | Growth Duration (in-game world) |
---|---|---|
Downy Serviceberry | Chainsaw | 1.2 years |
American Elm | Chainsaw | 8.6 months |
Oak | Chainsaw | 4.8 months |
Shagbark Hickory | Chainsaw | 2 years |
Pagoda Dogwood | Chainsaw | 1.6 years |
Maple | Chainsaw | 9.3 months |
Willow | Chainsaw | 2 months |
Birch | Chainsaw | 1.4 years |
Cypress | Chainsaw | 8.5 months |
Stone Pine | Chainsaw | 2 years |
Pine | Harvesting Machinery | 2 years |
Spruce | Harvesting Machinery | 2 years |
You can remove stumps using a mulcher which you will have to attach to the excavator or you can attach a stump cutter to a tractor.
Earning Through Forestry
Once you have logged the amount of trees you wanted, you can either convert them into wooden chips or keep them whole. You can load the logs of trees using ‘forwarders’, ‘excavators’, any machinery listed under ‘Miscellaneous’ or ‘loaders’. Each loader has their specific log forks which you can find in the item list.
- To convert logs of wood into wood chips, you can use either of the two wood chippers available in the market. You will have to pass your logs of wood through the chipper to obtain wood chips. Once you have acquired the desired amount of wood chips you should go into your ‘Prices’ menu and check who is offering the best per 1000l.
- The other way you can make money is by directly selling whole logs of wood. If you own the sawmill you can use the logs of wood as raw material to manufacture products of your own. You can use trailers to transport wood.
Selling whole logs is much more profitable than selling woodchips. Use the money earned from this to expand your farmland.
Buying Forest Land
If you are falling short of trees to harvest or waiting for your saplings to grow, you can purchase forest land and use the trees on that landscape for harvesting. Once you have chopped down your trees they will not grow again. You will need to plant new saplings.
